AI Traces Missing People in China
Demonstrated by a Chinese tech major, Baidu, a company in the country has managed to use AI to find over 9,000 missing people. This has been possible through AI’s facial recognition technology, a basic photograph is all that is required – which is compared in real-time with the Ministry’s existing database to identify the missing people.
AI Helps The Disabled
A Chinese project, headed by Baidu,has transformed workplaces at over 100 massage spas for the visually-impaired. They have been equipped with Xiaodu smart speakers and intelligent furniture systems, which facilitate visually-impaired massage therapists to vocally control light switches, air conditioning, television channels, and curtains. The project has also managed to collaborate with schools for visually-impaired students across China. They have built AI Libraries and Dormitories, which improve students’ smart learning capabilities and living environment through voice-controlled technologies.
AI Tools Address Weather Disruptions and Improve Flight Operations
Delta Airlines CEO, Ed Bastian, discussed a new 2020s operational structure for the international carrier that will be driven by the use of a new AI machine learning tool. While there is no specific details about it, it is essentially a proprietary tool that will mainly focus on helping passengers and flight crews overcome weather occurrences that impact the routes they fly on a daily basis.
AI Embraces Grocery Retail
Maxima is the world’s first grocery retailer that has managed to implement a set of unique Artificial Intelligence solutions. It aims at improving work efficiency, the customer shopping experience, streamlining operations and reducing costs of running its stores, along with balancing employee workloads. In larger Maxima stores, shelf stocking and checkout lines are already being managed by Artificial Intelligence solutions. The stores have also been installed with digitised systems for automatic monitoring of product sell-by dates that aids the staff to identify the groceries nearing their sell-by date more quickly, thus reducing food waste.
AI Comes to the Operating Rooms
Brain surgeons are now bringing in artificial intelligence and its imaging techniques into the operating room. This is being done in order to diagnose tumors as accurately as pathologists, or maybe much faster. This approach, as opposed to the traditional method, streamlines the standard practice of analyzing tissue samples while the patient is still on the operating table, to help guide brain surgery and later treatment. These AI solutions have managed to reduce the procedural time, whilst providing faster and better results.
